Kitchen

  • Store dry food in airtight containers — not the original paper packets.
  • Wipe spills the moment they happen; sugar and oil residue is the #1 attractant.
  • Empty the dustbin daily, and use a foot-pedal bin with a tight lid.
  • Run the sink trap with hot water once a week to keep drain roaches away.

Bathroom

  • Fix dripping taps and leaking pipes within days — every drip is a free water supply.
  • Ventilate after showers — damp walls invite silverfish and cockroaches.
  • Clean the floor trap monthly.

Bedroom

  • Vacuum mattresses and the area under the bed every fortnight.
  • Avoid storing cardboard boxes under the bed (perfect bed-bug harbourage).
  • Wash bed linen at 60°C if anyone has been travelling on long-distance trains or staying in budget hotels.

Living room & balcony

  • Empty plant saucers weekly to stop mosquito breeding.
  • Trim plants away from walls — they bridge ants and lizards into the house.
  • Seal cable entry points with silicone.

Outdoors

  • Remove standing water in tyres, broken pots and unused buckets.
  • Keep firewood and brick piles at least 30cm away from outer walls.
  • Seal cracks at the plinth level — that is the termite highway.
